Volleyball Opens Spartan Invitational With 3-0 Win

The Moravian College women's volleyball team opened its trip to the York College of Pennsylvania Spartan Invitational with a 25-20-25-20, 25-13 win over Rowan University in the opening round of the tournament Friday.

Junior right side hitter Samantha Savite led the Greyhounds with 12 kills while junior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey had eight kills, eight digs and four service aces. Senior middle blocker Katie Moquete contributed seven kills, two blocks and two digs for Moravian while junior setter Kelly Brown had 30 assists, 12 digs and four kills in the victory. Junior libero Jesse Krasley, pictured, had 18 digs to become the fourth player in school history to pas 1,200 digs in a career, now at 1,208, and she had four service aces and two assists. Freshman outside hitter Taylor Jennings added three kills while freshman outside hitter Kellianne Comitalo had eight digs and two kills for the Greyhounds. Sophomore middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had a pair of blocks in the match while senior defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt had six digs.

Sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Krissy Collins had five kills and three blocks for Rowan while sophomore middle blocker Nikki Binetti added five kills. Senior defensive specialist Sarah Betancourt ahad nine digs for the Profs while freshman outside hitter/middle blocker Sarah Hanrahan added seven blocks and five digs. Sophomroe setter Kelsey Donovan had nine assists while freshman setter Brooke Hassan added eight assists.

The Greyhounds had one match off before returning to the court to take on Salisbury University in their second match of the tournament scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
