Volleyball Defeats Conference Rival USMMA

The Moravian College volleyball team defeated conference foe The United States Merchant Marine Academy Sunday afternoon, 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-20). Sophomore setter Kelly Brown led the way for the Greyhounds with 26 assists, 14 digs and one kill.

With the victory, Moravian clinches its seventh straight postseason appearance, and its fifth straight trip to the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Greyhounds are the fifth seed in the tournament and will play at fourth seeded The University of Scranton on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. in a quarterfinal match.

Sophomore right side hitter Katelynn Strohl, pictured, led the team in kills with eight to go with her four blocks. Senior middle blocker Katie Moquete had seven kills to go with her one block. Freshman outside hitter Taylor Jennings tallied six kills, two blocks and two digs. Junior libero Jesse Krasley finished with 18 digs and also had three assists and one service ace. Krasley moved into second place in digs in a season with 585 digs this year.

Senior defensive specialist Ashley Schmidt had 14 digs in the game and one service ace. Freshman outside hitter Kellianne Comitalo tallied seven digs, three kills and one service ace. Sophomore middle blocker Brittany O'Hara had four blocks and two kills.

Junior middle blocker Jenny Wizeman finished with three kills. Classmate right side hitter Samantha Savite had three kills and two digs. Junior outside hitter JeanAnne Carey three digs, one kill and one service ace.

The Greyhounds play host to DeSales University Thursday, October 20 in non-conference action. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Johnston Hall.
