BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad saw graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi hit a pair of buzzer-beating shots at the end of each half to post a 66-64 non-conference victory over visiting Albright College in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening to begin the 2022-23 campaign.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored the first seven points of the contest before the Lions closed within two at 7-5. The Blue & Grey responded with nine straight points to build a 16-5 edge, and the Hounds were up 20-8 with 2:41 to go in the opening quarter after a lay-up from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente. Moravian held a 23-14 advantage after 10 minutes of action
  • Albright netted the first 11 points of the second quarter to take a 25-23 lead as the Greyhounds didn't score for the first six minutes of the period. Zamolyi broke the drought with a lay-up to knot the contest at 25-25. Guarente put the Blue & Grey in front 31-30 with a lay-up with 40 seconds left in the first half, and Zamolyi drained a three-pointer from near half court in front of the Albright bench to send the Hounds to the locker room with a 34-30 edge
  • The Lions scored the first six points of the third quarter to move back in front, 36-34. Moravian would have a 40-39 lead at the 3:18 mark after a lay-up from senior guard Ashley Robinson. Albright had another 6-0 run, and it was the Lions that just beat the buzzer at the end of the third quarter to hold a 47-43 edge after 30 minutes of play
  • Albright pushed the advantage to seven points early in the fourth quarter, and the Lions were up 54-47 with 6:21 remaining. Moravian slowly chipped away and knotted the contest at 61-61 on a lay-up by Zamolyi with 1:07 to go. Zamolyi would give the Greyhounds a 63-62 edge with another lay-up with 35 seconds remaining, and senior forward Emily Markowski hit a free throw with 3.3 seconds to go to make it a 64-62 lead
  • The Lions hit two free throws with just a second on the clock to tie the contest for the seventh time. After a timeout and moving the ball to midcourt on the far side, the Greyhounds had Guarente inbound the ball. Her pass found Zamolyi open making a move to the basket, and Zamolyi's shot came out of her hand just before the buzzer and into the basket for the victory
