Quick Start Leads Greyhounds Past Immaculata

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team scored 25 points in the opening quarter and led by 15 points after 10 minutes of action on the way to an 80-47 non-conference win over visiting Immaculata University in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Mighty Macs netted the first points of the contest before graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi put the Hounds on the board. The game was tied at 4-4 when Moravian went on a 12-0 run started by two free throws and a jumper from junior forward Sam Osorio as the Blue & Grey took control of the contest. Graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel hit two shots in the final minute of the quarter as the Hounds led 25-10 after 10 minutes of action
  • After a quick basket from Immaculata to begin the second quarter, senior guard Morgan Amy hit a three-pointer, and sophomore guard Mikayla Anderson and Yoegel connected on jumpers to extend the advantage to 32-12. The Greyhounds' edge reached as many as 25 points in the quarter and would be 46-22 heading to the locker room on a late free throw by Yoegel
  • The Mighty Macs scored the first five points of the second half; however, Moravian would answer with a 6-0 run. The Hounds stretched the edge to 37 points at 66-29 on a lay-up from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente with 1:42 left in the quarter as the Blue & Grey led 69-33 after 30 minutes of play as freshman guard Jayda Cartagena drained a late three-pointer
  • Moravian kept its lead above 33 points for the remainder of the contest with the advantage reaching 38 points on a lay-up from Zamolyi with 6:22 to play

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures with Yoegel netting a game-high 23 points to go with four steals and three boards. Zamolyi finished with 12 points, six rebounds and a pair of assists while Osorio added 10 points, nine boards, four blocked shots and two steals
  • Guarente, senior forward Emily Markowski and senior guard Ashley Robinson all scored six points with Robinson grabbing six rebounds, Guarente recording five boards and Markowski adding three rebounds and a pair of assists
  • Amy, Cartagena and junior guard Reganne Flannery each contributed five points with Amy dishing out six assists to go with two steals. Flannery posted four rebounds and four assists while Cartagena had two assists
  • Anderson had three rebounds, two points, two steals and a pair of blocked shots for the Hounds
  • Moravian was 32-for-54 from the field, 3-for-6 beyond the three-point line and 13-for-24 at the charity stripe
  • The Hounds held a 43-36 advantage on the boards and forced Immaculata into 20 turnovers
