Hounds Win Fourth Straight as Yoegel Nets 1,000th Career Point in Victory at Juniata

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team won its fourth straight Landmark Conference contest with a 75-51 victory at Juniata College Saturday afternoon that saw graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel become the program's 29th 1,000-point scorer. The contest was the Hounds' final road trip of the 2022-23 regular season.

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds jumped out to a 3-0 lead on a three-pointer from senior guard Morgan Amy, and a free throw by Yoegel had the Hounds up 6-2. The Eagles knotted the score at 6-6 while a jumper from Yoegel put the Blue & Grey back in front, 8-6. Juniata took a 9-8 lead while Yoegel sank two free throws for a 10-9 Moravian edge. The Eagles netted the next five points to move in front, 14-10, and Juniata led 15-12 after 10 minutes of action
  • The Hounds offense kicked into gear in the second quarter as the Blue & Grey outscored the Eagles 22-8 in the period. Yoegel sank a three-pointer for the first points of the second quarter to tie the game for the third time at 15-15, and a pair of free throws by senior forward Emily Markowski at the 8:01 mark gave Moravian the lead for good at 17-15. Markowski drained two more free throws to make it 21-16, and the Greyhounds were still up five points, 26-21, at the 4:20 mark when an 8-0 run capped off by a lay-up from Markowski has the lead in double digits at 34-21. The Hounds headed to the locker room with a 34-23 advantage
  • Moravian continued to stretch out the lead in the third quarter as Yoegel made it a 20-point advantage, 45-25, at the 5:34 mark with two free throws, which also pushed her to 1,000 career points in her 100th career contest as a Greyhound. The Blue & Grey outscored the Eagles, 24-9, in the third quarter to lead 58-32 after 30 minutes of action. The Hounds saw the edge reach 31 points at 58-27 on a three-pointer from junior guard Reganne Flannery in the final minute of the period
  • The Greyhounds added 17 more points in the fourth quarter to seal the win

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had four players in double figures with Yoegel finishing with 14 points, the total she needed to reach the 1,000-point milestone entering the contest, eight rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi had 12 points and six rebounds for the Greyhounds
  • Junior forward Sam Osorio recorded her sixth double-double of the season and the 11th of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots and four steals while senior guard Ashley Robinson added 11 points
  • Markowski posted eight points and grabbed four boards while Flannery had seven points, two rebounds and a pair of assists. Amy tossed in six points while sophomore forward Brielle Guarente had four points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots, and sophomore guard Mikayla Anderson contributed two points and two rebounds
  • The Greyhounds shot 24-for-56 from the field, 3-for-9 beyond the three-point line and 24-for-28 at the charity stripe
  • The Blue & Grey had a 42-32 edge in rebounds including 15-13 on the offensive glass, and the squad also forced Juniata into 22 turnovers
