Greyhounds Win Fourth Straight with Defeat Over Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Second Day of 19th Steel Club Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad won its fourth straight game with a 71-50 victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in Johnston Hall Saturday afternoon on the second day of the 19th Steel Club Classic. 

How It Happened

  • The Greyhounds scored on the opening possession of the game on a jumper from junior forward Sam Osorio just 10 seconds into action, and the Hounds raced out to a 9-0 lead after a pair of free throws from graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi at the 7:48 mark. The Blue Jays netted the games next seven points to pull within two at 9-7 with 5:47 left in the quarter. However, Moravian finished the period with another 9-0 run as a free throw from senior forward Emily Markowski made it 18-7 for the Hounds after ten minutes of action
  • The Blue and Grey continued the run into the second quarter, netting the first 14 points to push the edge to 32-7 on a jumper from graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel with 6:19 left in the first half. The Hounds would head to the locker room with a 38-22 advantage
  • The Greyhounds maintained their lead throughout the third quarter with a 55-37 edge after 30 minutes of action on a late basket from senior guard Ashley Robinson
  • Moravian saw the lead reach 25 points again in the fourth quarter with the bench playing most of the final 10 minutes 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double digits led by Yoegel, who scored a game-high 22 points to go with six rebounds. Zamolyi had her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with three assists and three steals as she was named to the All-Tournament Team
  • Markowski contributed 11 points, three rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocked shots while Osorio had nine boards and eight points. Sophomore forward Brielle Guarente added eight rebounds, six points, four assists and three steals while Robinson had four points and a pair boards
  • Freshmen guards Jayda Cartagena and Sarah Miniter both had two points with Cartagena grabbing five rebounds while senior guard Morgan Amy added five assists, two steals and a point. Sophomore guard Mikayla Anderson grabbed three boards
  • The Greyhounds shot. 28-for-68 from the floor, 1-of-6 on three-pointers and 14-for-25 at the foul line in the contest
  • The Blue & Grey had a 57-47 advantage on the boards and forced the Blue Jays into 21 turnovers while making 18 miscues
