Greyhounds Run Past Juniata for First Landmark Conference Win of the Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball squad scored 20 or more points in the first three quarters as the Greyhounds defeated Juniata College, 75-60, in Johnston Hall Friday afternoon for the Hounds' first Landmark Conference win of the season.

How It Happened

  • The Eagles scored the first points of the game while graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel hit a free throw to put the Blue & Grey on the scoreboard. Juniata pushed out to a 9-3 lead before a 7-0 run capped by a jumper from Yoegel at the 6:26 mark gave Moravian a 10-9 edge. Juniata retook an 11-10 advantage before the Greyhounds took the lead for good on a pair of free throws from Yoegel with 5:23 to play in the quarter. Moravian finished the first quarter on an 11-2 run to hold a 21-13 advantage after 10 minutes of action
  • Juniata netted the first points of the second quarter and trailed the Hounds by just seven points at 24-17 when Moravian ran off 15 straight points to take a 39-17 lead with 3:05 until the intermission on a lay-up from junior forward Sam Osorio. The Eagles closed the score to 41-27 Moravian at the intermission
  • The Greyhounds saw their edge reach 24 points at 61-37 on a jumper from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente with 1:45 to go in the third quarter as the Blue and Grey led 61-43 after 30 minutes of action
  • Moravian's advantage hit 24 points once more in the fourth quarter at 73-49 on a jumper from freshman guard Sarah Miniter with 4:23 remaining

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had four players in double digits led by Yoegel, who tossed in 20 points to go with three rebounds and a pair of steals. Graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi added 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while Guarente finished with 11 points and six boards
  • Osorio contributed 10 points and eight rebounds while seniors guard Morgan Amy and forward Emily Markowski each scored six points with Amy posting six assists, three rebounds and two steals and Markowski recording four assists and three steals
  • Senior guard Ashley Robinson had six boards, four points and two steals while sophomore guard Mikayla Anderson netted four points. Miniter finished with three rebounds and two points while junior guard Reganne Flannery grabbed three boards
  • The Greyhounds posted a 47-30 advantage on the glass while forcing Juniata into 21 turnovers
  • Moravian connected on 29-of-67 field goal attempts, 6-of-10 three-pointers and 11-of-16 free throws in the contest
