Greyhounds Race Past Mules in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team raced out to a 20-11 lead in the first quarter and went on to post an 80-52 non-conference victory over rival Muhlenberg College in Johnston Hall Wednesday evening. 

How It Happened

  • The Mules hit the opening three-pointer of the contest, but the Greyhounds countered with an 8-0 run to take the lead for good at 8-3 after three-pointer from graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel and a lay-up by graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi. The Hounds stretched the advantage to double digits at 20-9 when Zamolyi hit two free throws with 29 seconds left in the first quarter, and the Blue & Grey had a 20-11 edge after 10 minutes of action
  • Zamolyi started the second quarter with a lay-up, and junior forward Sam Osorio hit a lay-up at the 7:57 mark that would have Moravian's lead stay above 10 points for the remainder of the contest. Senior forward Emily Markowski and Yoegel both hit three-pointers as the Hounds pushed the edge to 18 at 32-14, and the Greyhounds headed to the locker room with the same 18-point lead at 36-18 after two free throws from Zamolyi in the final minute of the half
  • Moravian continued to stretch the advantage in the third quarter with the lead first hitting 30 points after a jumper by Osorio made it 54-24. Junior guard Reganne Flannery beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter to push the Greyhounds' edge to 67-35
  • Osorio gave the Blue & Grey their largest lead of the night at 37 points, 73-36, with 8:06 to play, and it was Osorio's final bucket of the night 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Greyhounds had three players in double figures led by Osorio, who netted a career-high 23 points. She also had 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season and seventh of her career to go with a pair of blocked shots
  • Zamolyi netted a Moravian career-high 22 points, and she grabbed 14 boards for her fifth double-double of the season, and Zamolyi added two assists while Yoegel tossed in 17 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists
  • Sophomore forward Brielle Guarente contributed eight points, six assists and a pair of rebounds while Markowski and Flannery each finished with three points as Markowski added four rebounds and three assists and Flannery dished out two assists
  • Senior guard Ashly Robinson had two points, two assists and three boards while sophomore guard Mikayla Anderson had two points and two rebounds and senior guard Morgan Amy finished with five assists and two boards
  • Moravian connected on 33-of-69 field goal attempts, 4-of-8 three-point shots and 10-of-15 free throws in the game
  • The Hounds also had a 55-32 advantage on the boards including 17-10 on the offensive glass
