Moravian Unable to Rally From Slow Start Against Drew at The Palestra

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team trailed by 13 points early and rallied to take a lead in the fourth quarter before falling to Drew University, 59-51, in Landmark Conference action at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon.

How It Happened

  • The Rangers scored the first six points of the contest before junior forward Sam Osorio hit a lay-up to get the Greyhounds on the scoreboard. Drew added another six points for a 12-2 edge when graduate student forward Tessa Zamolyi connected on a lay-up from senior guard Morgan Amy, who became the sixth Moravian player to reach 300 career assists. The Rangers maintained their edge, leading 19-6, after the first quarter
  • The Blue & Grey began to chip away in the second quarter, getting with five points at 23-17, on a jumper from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente at the 2:57 mark. However, Drew pushed the advantage back to double digits, heading to the locker room with a 29-19 lead
  • The Greyhounds scored the first six points of the second half as a pair of free throws from senior forward Emily Markowski to make it 29-25 with 7:44 to go in the third quarter. The Rangers pushed the edge back to 11 points while a lay-up by Markowski with seven seconds left in the quarter pulled Moravian back with four points at 38-34 after 30 minutes of action
  • The Hounds netted the first six points of the fourth quarter as a driving lay-up by Markowski had Moravian in front for the first time at 40-38 with 8:09 to go. The Blue and Grey led again at 41-40 on a free throw from Zamolyi at the 7:18 mark, but a 10-0 run from the Rangers gave Drew the lead for good 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had three players in double figures led by Zamoyli, who had her ninth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with four steals and two assists
  • Graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel added 11 points and six rebounds while Orsois finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals
  • Markowski had six points, three rebounds and two assists while Guarente posted five points and two boards. Amy recorded five assists, four steals, three rebounds and two points while senior guard Ashley Robinson grabbed two boards
  • The Greyhounds were 16-for-67 from the field, 1-for-18 beyond the three-point line and 18-for-22 at the foul line
  • The Blue & Grey had a 42-36 edge in rebounds
