SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's basketball team held on for a 68-65 Landmark Conference victory at Susquehanna University Saturday afternoon as the Hounds evened their conference record at 3-3 on the year.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with a jumper from graduate student forward Kayla Yoegel. The River Hawks tied the contest at 2-2, the first of nine ties on the day, while Moravian moved ahead 6-2 on a jumper from sophomore forward Brielle Guarente. Susquehanna answered and took a 9-8 edge with 3:46 left in the opening period. Guarente would give the Hounds a 14-11 advantage after 10 minutes of action after a late jumper in the period
- Both teams struggled to score in the first half of the second quarter with the River Hawks eventually taking a 19-16 lead with 4:39 on the clock. The Greyhounds answered with a 13-3 to head to the locker room with a 29-22 edge as Yoegel scored nine points in the final four minutes of the half
- Susquehanna opened the second half with a 7-0 run to knot the score at 29-29. Junior forward Sam Osorio gave the Blue and Grey the lead again, and a three-pointer by senior guard Ashley Robinson had Moravian up 35-31. The River Hawks countered and would hold a 44-41 edge after 30 minutes of play
- The Hounds began the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run as a jumper from Osorio has the Greyhounds back up 47-44. Susquehanna tied the contest three more times, the final time at 56-56 with 3:09 to go. Graduate student Tessa Zamolyi gave Moravian the lead for good at 58-56. The Blue and Grey sank eight free throws in the final 54 seconds including four by senior guard Morgan Amy
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had three players in double figures let by Yoegel, who had 21 points including 19 in the first half, six rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots. Zamolyi had her 11th double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds while Osorio tossed in 12 points to go with five rebounds and two steals
- Guarente recorded eight points and two assists while Robinson netted five points and four boards. Amy and senior forward Emily Markowski both scored four points with Markowski grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds to go with two assists while Amy contributed three assists, two steals and two rebounds
- The Greyhounds were 24-for-69 from the field, 2-for-11 beyond the three-point arc and 18-for-21 at the foul line
- The Hounds had a 46-33 edge on the boards including 19-4 on the offensive glass, and the Blue and Grey forced the River Hawks into 14 turnovers while making just eight miscues
