TOWSON, Md. --- Moravian University junior jumper Lexi Groff has been named the Landmark Conference Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last week.
Groff captured first place in the high jump at the Lehigh University Fast Times Before Finals to begin the 2022-23 indoor season last Saturday with a winning height of 1.65 meters (5-5), which is an indoor personal best and an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying mark. The height, which she cleared on her second attempt at the bar, also matched Groff's PR collegiately, both indoors and outdoors, and is tied for the second-best indoor height in program history.
"Lexi is continuing to progress," noted Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann. "She jumped four inches higher than at this meet a year ago and tied her lifetime best. We often say you want to be at last year's outdoor performances by the middle of the following indoor season, and she's already there right out of the gates. All the signs are pointing to her being able to make NCAAs this winter and spring if we can continue this trend.
"Her run in to the bar has improved tremendously in the past 12 months which is one of the reasons we're seeing her start off so well, but there are always things to correct especially after only the first meet. However, opening at 5'5" and #2 in the NCAA already is an awesome starting point towards what we know can be an incredible year," finished Baumann.
Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, December 9 at the Bow Tie Invitational hosted by Ursinus College with action beginning at 4:00 p.m.
