Ten Greyhounds Garner 2023 USTFCCCA Outdoor All-Metro Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- The Moravian University women's track & field squad has had ten student-athletes selected for 11 spots on the 2023 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Region.

For a student-athlete to earn All-Region honors, an athlete must be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final Track & Field Results Reporting System data or be part of a top-3 relay team. The program must also be a member of the USTFCCCA. Moravian is part of the Metro Region.

Moravian had seven individual selections and one relay team honors. Senior Crystal Robinson was named All-Region in the 400-meter dash, and she also made the All-Region team with seniors Rachel Byrne and Helen Davis and sophomore Abby Giamoni in the 4x100-meter relay. Robinson had the third-fastest 400-meter dash time in the region at 57.06 seconds at the 2023 Landmark Conference Championships while the relay squad is third in the region at 46.95 seconds after recording the time at the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships on May 17.

Sophomores Amber Poniktera and Rachael Goodman each earned All-Region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while freshman Tara Smurla was All-Region in the 10,000-meter run. Poniktera and Goodman both recorded their best times at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic on April 14 with Poniktera second in the region at 11:34.47 and Goodman ranked fourth at 11:42.76. Smurla was second in the 10K with a time of 38:37.13 at the AARTFC Championships.

The Greyhounds also had three field athletes earn All-Region including junior Lexi Groff in the high jump, sophomore Abby McClaskey in the javelin and freshman Margie Rayne in the discus. Groff had a top height of 1.64 meters (5-4.5) at the Landmark Conference Championships on May 7 to finish second in the region while McClaskey is fifth in the region with a distance of 36.43 meters (119-6) at the AARTFC meet. Rayne was fifth in the discus with a toss of 39.17 meters (128-6) during the Landmark Conference Championships on May 6.
