Moravian Wins Three Events at Lafayette Open to Start 2023 Outdoor Campaign

EASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's track & field team began the 2023 outdoor season at the Lafayette College Open with the Greyhounds capturing three event titles on a rainy Saturday at Metzgar Fields.

Event Winners

  • Senior Elizabeth DeMassa took first in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 19.33 seconds
  • Freshman Ali Haefele won the triple jump with a leap of 10.19 meters (33-5.25)
  • Senior Crystal Robinson captured the 100-meter dash in 13.10 seconds

Top 10 Finishers

  • Sophomore Bella DeMassa was the runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles in 19.44 seconds while freshman Makenna Mersch was third in 19.85 seconds and sophomore Ashley Rodrigues took fourth in 21.42 seconds
  • Mersch was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:25.24, and she was followed by Bella DeMassa in third at 1:25.54 and Rodrigues in fourth in a time of 1:29.19
  • Robinson was the runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 27.00 seconds while sophomore Abby Giamoni was fourth in 28.51 seconds and senior Helen Davis, who was ninth in 29.50 seconds
  • Sophomore Abby McClaskey was second in the javelin with a toss of 29.51 meters (96-10) while senior Delaney Wiseman placed third at 29.32 meters (96-2)
  • Senior Rachel Byrne placed third in the 800-meter run in 2:27.09 while sophomore Rylie Murphy took sixth in 2:31.44
  • Giamoni finished fifth in the 100-meter dash in 13.73 seconds while Davis was sixth in 14.22 seconds and sophomore Racquel Ramey placed ninth in 15.34 seconds
  • Freshman Shai Knight took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:10.16
  • Sophomore Amber Poniktera was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:15.34 while freshman Hannah Kolonoski took sixth in 13:29.20, freshman Grace Tirabassi finished seventh in 13:46.36 and junior Emma Garchinsky was eighth at 16:13.42
  • Freshman Tara Smurla took ninth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:09.14
  • Freshman Meghan Myers was ninth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 20:07.13 while sophomore Ally Meeks was tenth at 20:13.35
  • Sophomore Arin Peykar finished third in the shot put with a toss of 10.10 meters (33-1.75) while sophomore Mikayla Woodring took fourth at 9.74 meters (31-11.5)
  • Elizabeth DeMassa was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 4.45 meters (14-7.25) while senior Haylee Saylor took ninth at 4.26 meters (13-11.75)
  • Sophomore Caillie Fish was tenth in the hammer throw with a toss of 36.65 meters (117-0)
