Moravian Ninth After Opening Day of 2023 AARTFC Championships with Two School Records

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's track & field squad set a pair of school records and sits in ninth place of 34 teams to score points on the opening day of the 2023 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships hosted by Susquehanna University Wednesday. The Greyhounds earned 11 points through the first nine events. 

Moravian Finishers

  • The Hounds 4x100-meter relay squad of seniors Rachel Byrne, Helen Davis and Crystal Robinson and sophomore Abby Giamoni was the runner-up in a school record and Landmark Conference record tying time of 46.95 seconds to score eight points. The time moves the quartet to 12th in NCAA Division III on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list, and the top 16 relay teams at the end of the day on Thursday will qualify for the 2023 NCAA Division III National Championships next week
  • Moravian's 4x400-meter relay squad of Byrne, Robinson, Giamoni and sophomore Racquel Ramey finished seventh in a school record and Landmark Conference record time of 3:57.75 to garner two points
  • Sophomore Amber Poniktera earned a point with an eighth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 11:35.72. Sophomore Rachael Goodman took 13th in the race in 11:53.40
  • Freshman Tara Smurla finished tenth in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 38:37.13 while freshman Tori Champagne was 24th in 40:44.00
  • Davis had the eighth fastest time in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash in 12.35 seconds but missed reaching the finals by three-hundredths of a second
  • Sophomore Abby McClaskey finished 11th in the javelin with a toss of 36.43 meters (119-6) while senior Delaney Wiseman took 14th with a mark of 34.56 meters (113-5)
  • Freshman Margie Rayne placed 14th in the discus with a throw of 36.97 meters (121-3)
