Greyhounds Take Third in 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships with Groff Capturing High Jump Title

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's track & field squad took third of seven schools at the 2023 Landmark Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Susquehanna University as the Greyhounds earned 130.5 points in the 17 events competed.

Event Winners

  • Junior Lexi Groff captured her second straight Landmark Conference title in the high jump with a winning and All-Atlantic Region Track & Field qualifying height of 1.60 meters (5-3) on clearing the bar on her first attempt at the height to earn 10 points
  • The Hounds 4,000-meter distance medley relay team of sophomores Amber Poniktera and Lexi Rushatz and freshmen Shai Knight and Kate Rice took first in a time of 13:21.88 to pick up 10 points in Moravian's first win on the track
  • Moravian's 4x200-meter relay squad of seniors Rachel Byrne and Helen Davis and sophomores Abby Giamoni and Racquel Ramey garnered 10 points with a winning time of 1:47.96 

Top 8 Scoring Results

  • Freshman Tara Smurla was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run with an AARTFC qualifying time of 18:47.64 in the first track event to earn eight points
  • Smurla also finished third in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 10:57.40 to pick up six points while freshman Tori Champagne took seventh in 11:16.59 for two more points
  • Giamoni finished third in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.11 to garner six points while senior Crystal Robinson took fourth in 1:01.22 for five points and Bryne placed fifth in 1:01.43 to earn five points
  • Davis scored a fourth-place finish in the 60-meter dash finals in an AARTFC qualifying time of 7.98 seconds to pick up five points while Robinson finished eighth in 8.40 seconds to score one point. Robinson posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 8.00 seconds in the preliminaries as she had the fourth-best time in the prelims
  • Davis was also fourth in the 200-meter dash in an AARTFC qualifying time of 26.631 seconds to record five points as she just edged Robinson, who placed with an AARTFC qualifying time of 26.638 seconds for four points. Giamoni was seventh in the race in 27.07 seconds to garner two points
  • Freshman Elena Bocchetti finished fourth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:25.10 to score five points
  • Poniktera placed fifth in the mile run in a time of 5:46.93 to earn four points while sophomore Hannah Kolonoski took eighth in a PR time of 5:58. 86 for one point
  • In the final event on the track, the 4x400-meter relay squad of Byrne, Bocchetti, Knight and sophomore Zoey Bronson finished as runners-up in a time of 4:14.61 to garner eight points
  • Freshman Margie Rayne took second in the 20-pound weight throw with a PR toss of 13.79 meters (45-3) on her first attempt of the meet to garner eight points as she passed her previous best by eight and a half feet while sophomore Caillie Fish was third at a PR distance of 13.57 meters (44-6) for six points, sophomore Liz Miskovsky took fourth with a PR mark of 13.23 meters (43-5) to earn five points and senior Maddie Wickel was seventh at 12.56 meters (41-2) for two points
  • Freshman Ali Haefele tied for fifth in the high jump at a height of 1.42 meters (4-7.75) to garner 3.5 points
  • Haefele finished seventh in the triple jump, tying her career-best with a distance of 10.13 meters (33-3) to score two points
  • The Greyhounds had three scorers in the final field event with sophomore Arin Peykar taking fifth in the shot put at a distance of 10.37 meters (34-.25) for four points, Rayne placing sixth at 10.26 meters (33-8) to earn three points and sophomore Mikayla Woodring finishing eighth at a mark of 9.73 meters (31-11.25) for one point

Top 10 Finishes & PR Results

  • Champagne finished tenth in the 5,000-meter run in 20:00.94 while sophomore Ally Meeks ran a PR time of 20:18.40, freshman Grace Tirabassi posted a PR time of 20:25.98 and sophomore Lily Mingora had a PR time of 20:43.05
  • Senior Elizabeth DeMassa was ninth in the 60-meter hurdle preliminaries in a time of 10.44 seconds while sophomore Bella DeMassa took tenth in 10.46 seconds. Sophomore Ashley Rodrigues recorded a PR time of 10.86 seconds in the race
  • Rice was ninth in the 800-meter run in 2:34.94 while Rushatz placed tenth in 2:36.98
  • Elizabeth DeMassa also took ninth in the long jump with a mark of 4.83 meters (15-10.25) on her first attempt of the meet while Groff placed tenth at a PR distance of 4.80 meters (15-9)
  • Peykar finished ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 12.08 meters (39-7)
