Moravian Softball Unanimous Choice to Win 2012 Landmark Championship

MADISON, N.J. --- The 2012 Moravian College softball team has been selected to win its fifth straight championship in the Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Greyhounds were a unanimous selection at the top the poll with 66 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 53 points.  Susquehanna University earned the third spot with 51 points while The University of Scranton is fourth with 40 points.  Rounding out the poll are Drew University in fifth with 29 points, Juniata College in sixth with 23 points and The United States Merchant Marine Academy with 11 points.

Moravian, under the direction of 19th-year head coach John Byrne (581-182), returns 15 players and six starters from last year's 37-9 squad that won its fourth straight Landmark Conference Championship and 12th consecutive conference title overall.  The program also made the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 13th time in 14 seasons last year.  Coach Byrne has added another six players to the roster this year.

The Greyhounds begin their 2012 season with a trip to the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida with ten total games between March 4th through 9th.  Moravian was ranked 20th in the 2012 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 Poll, and the Greyhound will begin the Landmark Conference season on Saturday, March 17th with a doubleheader at Susquehanna University.
