#18 Softball Drops a 3-0 Decision to The College of New Jersey

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Senior pitcher Lauren Fitzsimmons tossed a a two-hit shutout to lead The College of New Jersey to a 3-0 victory over 18th-ranked Moravian Monday morning at the National Training Center.

The Lions, now 2-1 on the season, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when sophomore designated hitter Nicole Brodbeck led off with a single and scored on an RBI ground out from sophomore shortstop Kristen Lake.

The Greyhounds, 1-1 on the year, would get a runner to second base in the top of the third inning when junior outfielder Brook Kowal singled with one out and moved over on a sacrifice bunt from junior catcher Tori Thomas.  However, Kowal would be stranded there.

TCNJ pushed an unearned run across the plate in the bottom of fourth inning when Brodbeck scored on an error, and Lake would add an RBI single for the Lions in the bottom of the sixth for the 3-0 final.

TCNJ had a 5-2 edge in hits with Brodbeck going two-for-three.

Fitzsimmons allowed two hits and a walk while striking out five batters in the game.  Senior Jenna Carmon made her first start of the season for the Greyhounds, allowing three runs, just one earned, on five hits to go with two strikeouts.

Moravian would get right back on the field, taking on Elizabethtown College at 11:00 a.m. Monday.
