#19 Moravian Closes Out Spring Break with a 2-0 Win over Simmons

CLERMONT, Fla --- Sophomore Elizabeth Tillou tossed her second shutout of the season and junior Shannen Mohr collected her 100th career hit as 19th-ranked Moravian College defeated Simmons (Mass.) College Friday in the Greyhounds final game at the National Training Center.

Tillou allowed just three hits, and she struck out three batters to improve to 3-0 in the circle this season for the Greyhounds, who ends its Spring Break trip at 5-5 including three one-run losses and one in extra innings.

Moravian gave Tillou a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Mohr led off with a double as she became the 27th player in program history to reach 100 career hits, and freshman Bryanna Gifford came in to pinch run.  After a passed ball moved Gifford to third, junior catcher Tori Thomas had an RBI single.

The Greyhounds added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Sophomore Cassie Ernst pinch hit for Tillou and was hit by a pitch with one out.  After a sacrifice bunt, freshman outfielder Dior George hit an RBI single to score Ernst from second.

Both teams finished with three hits in the game.  Freshman Lauren Backus took the loss for Simmons, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks to go with three strikeouts.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, March 17 when they open their 2012 Landmark Conference season with a doubleheader at Susquehanna University beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
