Carmon, #19 Moravian Post 3-0 Shutout of John Carroll University

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Senior pitcher Jenna Carmon tossed a three-hit shutout to post her first shutout of the season and lead 19th-ranked Moravian College to a 3-0 victory over John Carroll University  at the National Training Center Friday morning.

Carmon allowed three hits and a walk while striking out one batter, the 250th strikeout of her career, for her second win of the season. Carmon is the fifth pitcher in school history to reach 250 career strikeouts.

The Greyhounds, now 4-5 overall, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when junior third baseman Shannen Mohr led off with a double and scored on an RBI, bases loaded fielder's choice from sophomore second baseman Eavan Matz.

Moravian extended its lead to 2-0 with a run in the top half of the third inning.  Sophomore second baseman Miranda Sergas walked with two outs and would eventually score on an error by John Carroll.

The Greyhounds finished the scoring with a single run in the top of the fifth inning.  Junior Alyssa Fegely came on as a pinch hitter and singled to start the inning.  Sergas added an RBI ground out to score Fegely.

Both teams had three hits with Mohr going two-for-two for Moravian.  Senior Brittany Danilov took the loss in the circle for John Carroll, allowing three runs, just one earned, on three hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts.

Moravian will close out their trip to the National Training Center with a game versus Simmons (Mass.) College at 11:00 a.m.
