STARKVILLE, MS --- The Moravian College softball team dropped one spot to 19th in the second regular season National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll for 2012 released Wednesday.
Linfield (OR) College received eight first-place votes and holds down the top spot with 200 points while Luther (Ia.) College is second with 189 points. Eastern Connecticut State University is third with 180 points while Emory (Ga.) University is ranked fourth with 174 points followed by University of Texas-Tyler in fifth with 168 points.
The Greyhounds, who were 20th in the preseason poll and 18th in last week's first regular season poll, have 61 points.
Moravian, under the direction of 19th-year head coach John Byrne (581-182), returns 15 players and six starters from last year's 37-9 squad that won its fourth straight Landmark Conference Championship. The program also made the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 13th time in 14 seasons last year. Coach Byrne has added another six players to the roster this year.
The Greyhounds, who are now 2-3 on the year, return to action Wednesday evening with two games at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida, taking on Ohio Northern University at 5:00 p.m. and Emerson (Mass.) College at 7:00 p.m.
