Carmon, Ernst Named to 2012 NCAA Division III Union, N.J. Regional All-Tournament Team

UNION, N.J. --- Senior pitcher Jenna Carmon and sophomore catcher Cassie Ernst of the Moravian College softball team have been named to the 2012 NCAA Division III Union, N.J. Regional All-Tournament Team announced Sunday after the tournament concluded.

The Greyhounds, who entered the tournament as the second seed, fell to seventh seed Centenary (N.J.) College in their opening game before staving off elimination three times with wins over sixth seed Misericordia University, fourth seed The College of New Jersey and fifth seed Alvernia University.  Moravian was finally eliminated from the tournament Sunday afternoon in a 3-1 loss to third seed Rowan University, who lost the regional final game to top seed Montclair State University, 1-0.

Carmon posted a 3-2 record in the circle during the tournament.  She had a 1.71 ERA with one shutout, five walks and 16 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of action.  At the plate, Carmon hit .313, going five-for-16 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.  Carmon also had 11 assists in the field in 11 chances.

Ernst hit .600 (nine-for-15) in five tournament games with five of her nine hits going for extra bases with three doubles and two of Moravian six homers in the regional.  Ernst also scored three runs and added five RBIs.  She was hit by two pitches for a .647 on-base percentage, and Ernst had a 1.200 slugging percentage over the five games.  Behind the plate, Ernst had 20 putouts in 20 changes.

Moravian completed its 2012 season with a 35-11 overall record and made its 14th appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the last 15 years.  The Greyhounds also captured their fifth straight Landmark Conference title and 13th consecutive conference championship this spring.
