Greyhounds Split Non-Conference Twinbill with Lebanon Valley in Pair of One-Run Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball squad split a non-conference twinbill with visiting Lebanon Valley College Tuesday afternoon at Blue & Grey Field with the Flying Dutchmen winning the opener, 6-5, and the Greyhounds taking the nightcap, 2-1.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • The Flying Dutchmen scored a run in the top of the first inning, and LVC added a run in the top of the second frame to take a 2-0 lead
  • The Greyhounds answered in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 2-1. Junior designated player Emily Silberman drew a leadoff walk and freshman second baseman Kendall Szor came in to run. Szor raced home from second on an RBI double off the bat of freshman pitcher Madi Cunningham
  • Lebanon Valley scored once in the top of third to push the edge back to two runs at 3-1, and the Flying Dutchmen tacked on two runs in the top of the fourth to make their lead 5-1
  • Moravian pushed three runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth frame to get within a run at 5-4. Junior shortstop Ajala Elmore drew a walk, sophomore center fielder Jessica Forder reached on a fielder's choice and sophomore left fielder Sage Snyder walked to load the bases with two outs. Freshman pinch hitter Marcie Silberman hit a pop up that was dropped in the infield and scored both Elmore and Forder. Sophomore third baseman Holly Walter connected on an RBI single to score Snyder
  • LVC scored an insurance run in the top of the seventh for a 6-4 edge
  • The Hounds scored once in the bottom of the seventh inning, and the Blue & Grey had the tying run on base when the game ended. Freshman first baseman Angelina Marino reached on a fielder's choice and raced home from second base on an RBI single by Elmore
  • Cunningham tossed the complete game in the circle with six strikeouts 

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Hounds took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning
  • LVC countered with a run in the top of the fourth frame to knot the score at 1-1
  • Moravian retook the advantage with a run on the home half of the fourth to make it 2-1. Marcie Silberman led off the inning, and she crossed the plate on an RBI single from Forder. The would be the final run of the afternoon
  • Freshman Sarah DeStefano improved to 5-0 in the circle in her debut season as she struck out five batters in the complete game

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 14 hits in the two games with Cunningham going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a double
  • Emily Silberman, Forder and Walter each collected two hits to go with an RBI while junior catcher/outfielder Mya Zettlemoyer added two hits
  • Forder scored twice while Marcie Silberman recorded a hit and a run
