MEDFORD, Mass. --- The Moravian University softball team fell to host No. 7 Tufts (Mass.) University, 3-0, in the first game of the championship round at the 2023 NCAA Division III Medford (Mass.) Regional Saturday, and the Greyhounds were leading the if necessary game, 1-0, in the top of the seventh inning when rain forced the conclusion of the regional to Sunday.
How It Happened – Game 1
- The Jumbos took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with two outs after a hit batter,
- Tufts scored the game's only other run in the top of the fifth inning
- The Hounds would put a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fifth frame but Moravian would strand junior second baseman Ajala Elmore at second
How It Happened – Game 2
- The final contest, that would hit a rain delay and eventual postponement with Moravian batting in the top of the seventh, saw the Hounds take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by sophomore first baseman Lindsey Gawrys
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had just one hit in the completed game with junior designated hitter Emily Silberman connecting on a single
- Sophomore Madi Cunningham allowed three runs on seven hits and no walks to go with a pair of strikeouts as she dropped to 16-6 on the season
