Eight Greyhounds Selected to 2023 Landmark Softball All-Conference Teams; DeStefano Honored as Rookie of the Year

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian University softball team has had eight student-athletes selected to the 2023 Landmark All-Conference Teams with freshman pitcher/outfielder Sarah DeStefano selected as the Rookie of the Year.

Six of the eight Hounds to garner All-Conference accolades were named to the First Team including sophomore pitcher Madi Cunningham, third baseman Holly Walter, sophomore outfielder Sage Snyder, freshman catcher Marcie Silberman, junior designated player Emily Silberman and junior utility player Mya Zettlemoyer. DeStefano was selected as a pitcher on the All-Conference Second Team, and junior shortstop Ajala Elmore also made the Second Team.

The Greyhounds are 29-8 this season including a 10-2 mark to earn the top seed and right to host the 2023 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field May 12-14.

“What a tremendous honor for Madi, Holly, Marcie, Mya, Emily, Sage, Sarah, and Ajala,” commented first-year Head Coach Josh Baltz. “To have eight total, 1st and 2nd team selections is a great accomplishment! They have all played important roles on this team. It is nice to see them rewarded for their hard work and commitment to success!”

DeStefano is 13-2 in the circle with 71 strikeouts, three shutouts and a 2.01 ERA in 97.1 innings of action, and she starts in right field for the Hounds when she isn’t pitching. At the plate, DeStefano has posted a .343 batting average, 35 hits, 19 runs, eight stolen bases, two doubles and 13 RBIs. DeStefano, who is the Greyhounds’ ninth Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year in the conference’s 16 years, has 33 putouts and 32 assists in the field.

“Sarah has had an unbelievable first season,” noted Baltz. “She has contributed in the circle, defensively in right field, and at the plate. We have asked Sarah to do a lot this season, and she has stepped up every time. She works extremely hard on every aspect of her game. Combining her talent along with her outstanding work ethic should be fun to watch as she continues her career!”

Cunningham, who was the 2022 Landmark Conference Rookie of the Year and a member of the All-Conference First Team last spring, is 13-5 in the circle to go with five shutouts, 82 strikeouts and a 1.99 ERA in 126.1 innings, and she has recorded 11 hits, 12 runs, a double, a homer and four RBIs at the plate. Cunningham is 29-6 in the circle in her career to go with one save, 165 strikeouts and a 2.09 ERA in 245 innings of action, and she also has 25 hits, 23 runs, three doubles, six homers and 17 RBIs in two seasons.

Walter is hitting .390 with 48 hits to go with 34 runs, seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, 13 stolen bases, 17 walks and 15 RBIs, and she has contributed 22 putouts and 89 assists in the field. Walter has 72 hits, 50 runs, 11 doubles, two triples, three homers, 22 RBIs, 32 walks, 18 stolen bases and a .364 average in her career.

Snyder has a .385 average to go with 37 hits, 23 runs, five doubles, a triple, two homers, 16 walks, 15 stolen bases and 22 RBIs. Snyder has posted 40 hits, 31 runs, five doubles, a triple, two home runs, 23 RBIs, 19 walks, 15 stolen bases and a .374 average in two seasons.

Marcie Silberman leads the Greyhounds with a .403 batting average to go with 29 hits, 13 runs, six doubles, five homers and 20 RBIs.

Emily Silberman, who was on the 2021 and 2022 Landmark All-Conference Second Team, is hitting .337 to go along with 33 hits, four runs, four home runs and 30 RBIs. Silberman recently became the 51st player in program history to reach 100 career hits, and she has 101 hits, 22 runs, six doubles, 16 homers, 88 RBIs and a .388 average in her career.

Zettlemoyer, who has seen action at catcher and in the outfield, is hitting .375 to go with 24 hits, 13 runs, five doubles, a triple and nine RBIs. She has 46 hits, 38 runs, nine doubles, a triple, 20 RBIs and a .317 average in her two seasons with the Greyhounds.

Elmore has posted a .337 batting average to go along with 35 hits, 18 runs, four doubles, a homer and 16 RBIs, and she has 53 putouts and 84 assists in the field. In three seasons, Elmore has recorded 76 hits, 53 runs, 11 doubles, four triples, five homers, 50 RBIs, a .302 average, 124 putouts and 154 assists.
