BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The top seed and host Moravian University softball team advanced to the championship round of the 2023 Landmark Conference Tournament at Blue & Grey Field with a 3-1 victory over third seed The Catholic University of America in a winner's bracket game Saturday morning.

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead with two outs in the top of the first inning
  • The Greyhounds answered with two runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. Freshman catcher Marcie Silberman led off with a single, and sophomore center fielder Sage Snyder reached on an error. Junior designated player Emily Silberman grounded out to move both runners into scoring position before freshman right fielder Sarah DeStefano connected on a two-RBI double off the fence in left center to score Marcie Silberman and Snyder
  • Moravian added an insurance run in the bottom of the third inning to finish off the scoring. Sophomore third baseman Holly Walter led off with a single, moved to second on a ground out by sophomore first baseman Lindsey Gawrys and onto third on a single by Marcie Silberman. With Snyder batting, Silberman faked a delayed steal, and when the Cardinals threw down to chase Silberman back to first, Walter scampered home with a stolen base to score the final run of the game

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had just four hits in the contest with Marcie Silberman going 2-for-3 with a run
  • DeStefano ripped one hit with her two-RBI double while Walter had the other hit and scored a run. Snyder also scored once
  • Sophomore Madi Cunningham improved to 15-5 in the circle as she allowed a run on four hits and two walks while striking out four Catholic batters
  • The Hounds have advanced to the championship round of the Landmark Conference Tournament for the 12th time in the 15-year history of the tournament, and the Blue & Grey will be looking for their tenth Landmark title on Sunday. Eight of previous 12 trips to the championship round have seen Moravian come from the winner's bracket and only three times – 2010, 2011 and 2017 – has the if necessary game been needed and only once have the Greyhounds lost twice on the final day of the tournament, that being in 2017 to Susquehanna University
