Moravian Ranked Sixth in Final 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll

Greyhound softball ranked No. 6 in NFCA poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Moravian University softball squad is ranked sixth in the final 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll released this week.

The Greyhounds, who were not ranked at all during the 2023 preseason or regular season, jumped into the final rankings after tying for fifth place at the 2023 NCAA Division III Softball Championships. Moravian won its tenth Landmark Conference title and 18th overall conference championship this spring while earning the program's 19th trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Hounds posted a 38-12 overall record, the school's first 50-game season, and won the program's fourth NCAA Division III Regional title and first NCAA Division III Super Regional championship under the direction of first-year Head Coach Josh Baltz.

Moravian's final nine games of the season were all against squads ranked in the final Top 25 of the year. In the Medford (Mass.) Regional, the Hounds defeated No. 17 Tufts University, 1-0 then fell to the Jumbos, 3-0, before a 4-1, eight-inning win over Tufts gave the Blue & Grey the regional title. The next weekend, Moravian returned to the Boston area for the Cambridge (Mass.) Super Regional where the Greyhounds fell to No. 18 Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 5-0, before defeating the Engineers, 5-2 and 8-0 in five innings, to earn the Super Regional championship.

The Blue & Grey began the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship series with a 4-1 win over No. 2 Salisbury (Md.) University, which was the top ranked team in the poll at the time of the game, before falling to No. 3 Berry (Ga.) College, 8-1, and No. 1 and eventual National Champion Trine (Ind.) University, 12-4 in five innings, to conclude the season.
