Moravian Takes Second Game to Earn Split at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian University softball team earned a win in the second game at Susquehanna University Saturday in Landmark Conference action to split the doubleheader as the River Hawks won the opener, 2-1, and the Hounds took the nightcap, 5-2.

How It Happened – Game #1

  • Susquehanna scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning in the opening contest
  • The Greyhounds cut the deficit to a run in the top of the fourth frame. Sophomore centerfielder Jessica Forder connected on double with one out, and she raced home from third on an RBI infield single by junior catcher Mya Zettlemoyer
  • Moravian had chances to tie the game, stranding a runner at third base in both the sixth and seventh innings
  • Sophomore Madi Cunningham made the start in the circle, and had four strikeouts and just five hits, no walks and one earned run in the complete game

How It Happened – Game #2

  • The Blue & Grey jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second contest. Sophomore third baseman Holly Walter started the game with a single, and she scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by freshman catcher Marcie Silberman. Junior designated player Emily Silberman added an RBI single as sophomore first baseman Lindsey Gawrys scored after a single earlier in the frame
  • Moravian extended the lead to 3-0 with a run in the second inning as junior shortstop Ajala Elmore led off with a single and raced home on an RBI double off Forder's bat
  • The River Hawks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second frame to cut the Hounds' advantage to 3-2
  • The Greyhounds finished off the scoring with two runs in the top of the fifth. Gawrys connected on a one-out single and raced around the bases on an RBI double by Marcie Silberman. Sophomore pinch hitter Ren Herschman hit a two-out RBI single to bring in Silberman with the final run of the game
  • Freshman Sarah DeStefano earned her seventh win of the spring in the circle with three strikeouts in a complete game 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had 17 hits in the doubleheader with Forder going 3-for-5 with three doubles, a run and an RBI
  • Walter added three hits with a run and a double while Emily Silberman had three hits and an RBI
  • Gawrys recorded two hits and scored twice while sophomore left fielder Sage Snyder had two hits
  • Marcie Silberman added two RBIs, a hit and a run while Elmore posted a hit and a run
  • Zettlemoyer and Herschman both had one hit and an RBI
