Fegely, #14 Moravian Shut Out Lebanon Valley, 1-0, in 8 Innings

CLERMONT, Fla. --- Senior pitcher Alyssa Fegely tossed her third shutout of the season to lead the 14th –ranked Moravian College softball team to a 1-0, eight-inning victory over Lebanon Valley College in the Greyhounds first game of the day Thursday at the National Training Center.

Fegely allowed just three base runners as she remained perfect in the circle at 3-0 this season. Lebanon Valley had singles in the first and sixth innings, and a walk in the seventh, but the Flying Dutchmen would not get a runner into scoring position until the international tiebreaker started the eighth inning with a runner at second. Fegely had three strikeouts in the game as she picked up her ninth career shutout.

The Greyhounds threatened in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore outfielder Dior George and junior designated player Cassie Ernst were both hit by pitches but Moravian would not score.

Geroge led off the third inning with a single, and Ernst would reach base again; however, the Greyhounds were unable to push a run home.

Moravian had a runner in scoring position in both the sixth inning when senior third baseman Shannen Mohr singled and junior pinch runner Leann Ventriglia made it to second base, and in the seventh when Fegely reached second after a single and sacrifice bunt, but the Lebanon Valley defense would not allow either runner to score.

The Greyhounds started the bottom of the eighth inning with George on second base via the international tiebreaker. Junior outfielder Miranda Sergas laid down her third sacrifice bunt of the game, moving George to third base, and Ernst followed with an RBI single to left field to win the contest.

Moravian had a 4-2 edge in hits in the game. Lebanon Valley junior pitcher Sam Derr took the loss in the circle, allowing four hits to go with four strikeouts.

The Greyhounds are due back on the field at 5:00 p.m. in a game versus Misericordia University, after the Cougars play Lebanon Valley.
