Softball Swept by Kean

UNION, N.J. --- The Kean University softball team fell behind early in both game but would rally twice to sweep a non-conference doubleheader from visiting Moravian College, 5-1 and 6-2, Thursday afternoon as the Greyhounds were swept in a doubleheader for the first time since April 13, 2010, a span of 38 straight doubleheaders without being swept.

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the opening game. Junior outfielder Miranda Sergas singled with one out, and she scored on an RBI ground out by sophomore outfielder Jenn Dalickas. Moravian left a runner at third in the inning, and the Greyhounds left a total of 12 runners on base in the opening game including six in scoring position and the bases loaded in the third and sixth innings.

Kean answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-RBI single by junior shortstop Kelly Moorehead, and the Cougars scored their other three runs in the second inning on an two-RBI single by senior second baseman Katie Schuh and an RBI ground out from junior outfielder Sandra Binkiewicz.

Moravian had a 10-6 advantage in hits in the game with Sergas going three-for-three. Sophomore outfielder Dior George was two-for-four for the Greyhounds. Junior outfielder Megan Cegielski led Kean at the plate with a three-for-three performance.

Greyhounds' senior pitcher Alyssa Fegely dropped to 7-2 in the circle this season after allowing five run on four hits and two walks with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings. Junior Elizabeth Tillou tossed the final 4 2/3 innings and allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out four batters. Sophomore Courtney Yard earned the win for the Cougars.

In the second game, Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Dalickas started the inning with a single, and she scored on a one-out RBI single by senior first baseman Amanda Dizinno.

The Greyhounds extended their lead to 2-0 with another run in the top of the fourth inning. Dalickas doubled with one out and came across the plate on an RBI sacrifice fly by Dizinno.

Kean cut Moravian's lead in half with a run in the bottom half of the fourth on an RBI single by freshman pitcher Casey Glatts.

The Cougars then scored five times in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game. Moorhead drove in a pair of runs with a two RBI double before Glatts connected on a two-run homer. Schuh added an RBI fielder's choice later in the inning.

Once again, Moravian had a 6-5 edge in hits in the second game with Dalickas going two-for-three. Glatts lead Kean with a two-for-three performance. The Greyhounds, who had four errors in the second game and five in the twinbill, entered the doubleheader ranked fourth in the nation in fielding percentage with just ten errors in 519 chances this season.

Tillou started the second game for Moravian in the circle and fell to 2-2 after giving up four runs, three earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out two batters in five-plus innings of action. Freshman Lindsay Sullivan allowed two runs on two hits and a walk in a third of an inning while sophomore Lizzie Mack tossed the final 2/3 of an inning for the Greyhounds.

Glatts tossed a complete game for the Cougars with four strikeouts.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, April 6th in a non-conference doubleheader versus Hunter (N.Y.) College beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Blue & Grey Field in Bethlehem. The Greyhounds will be celebrating Senior Day before the game.
