Heather Bortz & Meaghan Hennessy named to MAC 100 Century Team

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Former Moravian College softball All-Americans Heather Bortz ('05) and Meagan Hennessy ('06) have been named to the MAC 100 Century Softball Team from the 2004-2012 era.

As a part of the MAC 100 celebration, the Middle Atlantic Conference is recognizing the top athletes from conference history, naming student-athletes to Century Teams in each sport from each era. Eras were delineated based on conference membership and sport sponsorship. The number of individuals selected per team varies depending upon the nature of the sport. Century Teams were selected from an online fan vote combined with the MAC Sports Information Directors vote. Team members will receive a commemorative gold coin, distributed to their alma matter.

Bortz was the Commonwealth Conference Rookie of the Year in 2002 and the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2005. She earned a spot on the All-Commonwealth Conference First Team for four straight years, and she was a three-time Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American, making the First Team in 2004 and Second Team honors in 2003 & 2005. Bortz, who was on the NFCA All-Region First Team for three consecutive years, was the first player in school history to reach 200 career hits and finished with 253 hits in her career, which is still the school record. Bortz set four other career records before she graduated including at-bats with 567, runs scored at 137, batting average at .446 and consecutive game hitting streak at 44, which was also the NCAA Division III record.

Hennessy, who played for the Philadelphia Force professionally after graduation, was the Commonwealth Co-Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2003 and Commonwealth Pitcher of the Year in 2004, 2005 and 2006 while being on the Commonwealth All-Conference Frist Team for four seasons. Hennessy was a two-time Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-American, making the First Team in 2004 and the Second Team in 2005. She was also the ECAC Division III Southern Pitcher of the Year during her junior and senior seasons as well as earning a spot on the All-Star First Team. Hennessy finished her career with a 92-24 record and as one of the top pitchers in NCAA Division III history. At graduation, Hennessy was ranked in the top 15 in the NCAA record books in shutouts with 53 which was second all-time, fourth in complete games with 105, fifth in strikeouts with 876, sixth in wins with 92, sixth in innings pitched with 819 2/3, tenth in games started with 114, tied for tenth in games with 129 and 14th in ERA at 0.91.
