Softball Slips to 21st in Latest NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Moravian College softball team slipped seven places to 21st in the nation in the third regular season 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll released Wednesday. 

Moravian has 41 points in the poll, and the Greyhounds were 19th in the first regular season poll, and 14th last week after being 17th in the preseason poll in late January. Moravian is one of four teams from the East Region ranked in the Top 25.

Montclair State University received seven first-place votes and holds down the top spot with 199 points while Emory (Ga.) University is second with 192 points and the remaining first-place vote. The University of Texas-Tyler is ranked third with 181 points followed by Illinois Wesleyan University with 173 points. Trine (Ind.) University holds down the fifth spot in the poll with 170 points after winning the 2013 NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic Gold Bracket Championship. Emory won the Silver Bracket at the Leadoff Classic.

Moravian, under the direction of 20th-year head coach John Byrne, started the 2013 campaign with an 8-2 record at the National Training Center in Clermont, Florida. One of Moravian's two losses on the trip was to Coe (Iowa) College, which is ranked 19th this week.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, March 16th when the squad begins its 2013 Landmark Conference season with a doubleheader versus Susquehanna University starting at 1:00 p.m. at Blue & Grey Field.
