#20 Softball Sweeps Doubleheader from Albright

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The 20th –ranked Moravian College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Albright College, winning the first game 9-0 in five innings on a two-hit shutout from senior pitcher Alyssa Fegely, and capturing the second game, 7-2, at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday.

Moravian would strike early in the opener with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore outfielder Dior George reached on an error to lead off the game, and she scored on an RBI single from junior designated player Cassie Ernst. Ernst then scored from second base on a ground ball by freshman Lindsay Sullivan that was misplayed in the field.

The Greyhounds added three runs in the bottom half of the second for a 5-0 lead. George singled to left with two outs on a ball the umpires ruled was trapped on a sliding attempt by the left fielder. Junior outfielder Miranda Sergas followed with an RBI single. George scored when Ernst reached on an error, and Ernst came home on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore outfielder Jenn Dalickas.

Moravian added four runs in the fourth inning for a 9-0 lead and the NCAA eight-run rule. George singled with one out and scored on an RBI single from Ernst. Sergas, who had reached on an error, scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Fegely. Senior third baseman Shannen Mohr drove in the final two runs with a two-RBI single down the left field line with the bases loaded to score Dalickas and Fegely.

The Greyhounds had a 9-2 edge in hits with Dalickas going two-for-two. George and Ernst were both two-for-three in the game with George adding a pair of stolen bases and three runs scored and Ernst  scoring twice with two RBIs.

Fegely improved to 5-1 in the circle with her fourth shutout of the season and the tenth shutout of her career, and Fegely recorded seven strikeouts. Freshman Aubrey Koch took the loss for the Lions.

Moravian stuck first in the second game, scoring once in the bottom of the first inning. George reached on an error to start the inning, and she scored when Dalickas scored on another error by the Lions.

The Greyhounds added three more runs in the bottom half of the second to extend the lead to 4-0. Senior first baseman Amanda Dizinno reached on an error to start the inning, and she scored on a two-out, RBI single by George. With the bases loaded, Dalickas connected on a two-RBI single that scored George and Sergas.

The Lions got onto the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when Koch led off with a double to left centerfield and scored on an RBI ground out from senior outfielder Brandy Lagomarsino.

Moravian scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 6-1. Dizinno singled with one out and scored on an RBI pinch hit single by Mohr. George then connected on an RBI sacrifice fly that chased freshman outfielder Mary Schlosbon across the plate.

The Greyhounds scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-1 advantage. Junior pinch hitter Melissa Cottone hit a double off the top of the right field fence and scored on an RBI single from Dizinno.

Albright added a run in the top of the seventh to set the final score of the nightcap at 7-2. Senior first baseman Natalie Carlucci led off with inning with a doubled and scored on an RBI single from senior outfielder Miriah Wilson

Moravian had an 11-4 edge in hits in the second game with Dizinno going three-for-four. Schlosbon was two-for-four at the plate for the Greyhounds while senior first baseman Natalie Carlucci was two-for-three with a pair of doubles to lead Albright.

Sophomore Lizzie Mack improved to 3-1 in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout in 6 2/3 innings. Fegely pitched to the final two batters in the game, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout. Senior Allie Frank suffered the loss in the circle for the Lions.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 29th with a non-conference doubleheader at Ursinus College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
