Softball Sweeps Delaware Valley in Non-Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Delaware Valley College, 4-0 and 12-2 in five innings, at Blue & Grey Field Tuesday.

Moravian took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first in the opening game. Junior outfielder Miranda Sergas singled with one out and scored on an RBI single from senior first baseman Amanda Dizinno.

The Greyhounds added two run in the bottom of the second to build a 3-0 lead. Senior third baseman Shannen Mohr led off with a single, and junior catcher Taylor Mihalik. Sophomore outfielder Dior George followed with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

Moravian added a run in the bottom half of the fourth for a 4-0 advantage when sophomore outfielder Jenn Dalickas hit an RBI double down the left field line with two outs to send George across the plate.

Moravian had a 7-2 edge in hits in the opening game with George going three-for-four.

Senior Alyssa Fegely improved to 8-2 in the circle this season with her third shutout of the season. She allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Junior Whitney Stacey took the loss for the Aggies.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game. George reached on an error to start the game, stole second base and scored on an RBI single from Dalickas. Junior catcher Cassie Ernst, who had walks, scored on an RBI single by Dizinno. Freshman pitcher Lindsay Sullivan  reached on a fielder's choice before junior third baseman Rachel DeLucia hit a two-RBI double. Moravian's final run of the inning scored on an error.

Delaware Valley got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the second inning when junior third baseman Tori Stachura hit a two-out, two RBI single, cutting Moravian's advantage to 5-1. The Aggies added another run in the third inning on an error by the Greyhounds to make the score 5-2.

The Greyhounds scored three times in the bottom half of the third to push their lead to 8-2. DeLucia and senior shortstop Brook Kowal singled with one out, and after another out, freshman outfielder Mary Schlosbon dropped a two-RBI triple down the left field line. Ernst followed with an RBI single to plate Schlosbon.

Moravian added four runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 12-2 advantage. Junior pinch hitter Leann Ventriglia connected on an RBI single to score junior second baseman Eavan Matz, who led off the inning with a single. Kowal hit an RBI ground ball to score Sullivan, who had singled. Schlosbon added a two-RBI single for the Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds had a 13-4 advantage in hits in the second contest with Dalickas going three-for-three. Schlosbon and DeLucia were each two-for-two for Moravian.

Sullivan remained undefeated in the circle at 6-0 after allowing two runs on four hits and a walk to go with one strikeout. Freshman Emily Gerhard took the loss for the Aggies.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Thursday, April 11th when Moravian hosts rival Muhlenberg College in a non-conference doubleheader at Blue & Grey Field beginning at 3:00 p.m.
