#14 Moravian Rallies Past Case Western Reserve, 6-5

CLERMONT, Fla. --- The 14th–ranked Moravian College softball team opened the final day of its Spring Break trip to the National Training Center Friday with a 6-5 victory over Case Western Reserve University Friday afternoon.

In the opener, Case took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning, the first three runs of the year allowed by Moravian starter senior Alyssa Fegely in four starts. Sophomore second baseman Molly O'Brien walked with one out, and freshman second baseman Rachel Komar hit a bunt single. After the second out of the inning, freshman first baseman Erin Dreger connected on a two-RBI double and junior shortstop Makenzie Lein followed with an RBI double.

The Greyhounds pushed four runs across the plate in the bottom half of the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Sophomore right fielder Jenn Dalickas started the inning with a triple, and she scored on a one-out, RBI single from senior shortstop Brook Kowal. Sophomore outfielder Dior George had an RBI single that scored senior first baseman Amanda Dizinno, who had singled. Junior outfielder Miranda Sergas sent Kowal across the plate with an RBI single while Fegely gave Moravian the lead with an RBI single that scored George.

Moravian pushed the lead to 6-3 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior catcher Taylor Mihalik had a bunt single with one out and scored on an RBI double by George, and George scored Moravian's final run of the game on a wild pitch.

The Spartans finished the scoring with two runs in the top of the seventh on a two-RBI double by junior catcher Amy Taylor before the Greyhounds recorded the final out for the victory.

Case had a 14-10 edge in hits in the game with Lein and O'Brien each going three-for-four. Dreger and sophomore pitcher Rebecca Taylor were both two-for-four. Kowal was two-for-two at the plate for Moravian while Sergas was two-for-three and George was two-for-four with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Fegely improved to 4-0 in the circle for the Greyhounds, allowing five runs on 14 hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Rebecca Taylor took the loss for the Spartans, giving up six runs on ten hits and four walks along with four strikeouts.

Moravian would get right back on the field for its final game of the trip versus Coe (Iowa) College.
